These Edwardian postcard stylized works are celebrations of the holiday histories that Kororareka Russell holds in the hearts and memories of many Kiwis over the last 150 years. They are reimaginings, now what are called "mashes" meant to celebrate the rebuilding of the Duke of Marlborough Hotel which as the earliest NZ licensee to sell liquor by implying that hospitable resting place so many known and loved. Holidays and history are often close to each other and more than a single idea is always present with the impressive waka toa or war canoe that were witnessed on very early visits and can now still be seen off these shores, especially around Waitangi Day celebrations early each year.
